STATION "B"

Those of us who worked at "Station B" will never forget having the 4 freq.'s and 2 phone positions, and we can't forget freq. "H"..... in an area that housed only one switchboard and frequency during the first years of the department. "Station B" did have its advantages, however, as we were always aware of what was going down around us and assisted other RTO''S in any way we could. Like Firestone we too were family.
The 7" Scanlon Computer began to take the place of the teletype, in the early 70''s. this was the introduction of the new technology that would be used in the new facility, housing Technical Services and Communications, as we know it now as "SRC". we soon found out with the Scanlon Computer that when a 10/29 didn't come back for a period of time, you could almost count on it being a 10/29V. Eventually the field units when there was a delay, were aware they could possibly have a stolen vehicle. In the early 70's, one of the Sergeants brought a cassette recorder in to tape any hot traffic that we might have. What a difference it made from the legal size paper we used to write the broadcasts, pursuits, anything that was not recorded on Call Code slip. For awhile we still wrote all the informatin the units transmitted, just in case.
When moving to SRC, with all the modern computer technology and frequencies floating in mid-air, not having the control as we had at "Station B" was very scary.... There were times when every station frequency in the county was on one console. When the field units were advised of it and to 10/3 , unless they had emergency traffic.. never once did any of the deputies transmit, (unless they were out of the unit). until clearance for traffic was given.
We knew as RTO''s, your trust was a privilege. That trust would never be forgotten, when your lives were in our hands. I for one, want to thank you for that trust and confidence when I had your frequency 22. Never will I forget all the dedicated men and women I worked with those years in the memories of good as well as sad times.
